Puggy Blackmon, Assistant Women’s Golf Coach at the University of South Carolina, has been named the 2016-17 Golf Pride Grips WGCA Assistant Coach of the Year.
Blackmon began as the assistant women’s coach at South Carolina in 2010 after 12 years at the helm of the men’s program. During his eight-year tenure, the Gamecocks women's golf team has tallied eight NCAA Championship appearances and won five NCAA Regional titles. In early May, the Gamecocks won the NCAA Columbus Regional, the team’s third straight regional title. South Carolina concluded the season with a 10th place finish at the NCAA Championships, falling just short of a match-play berth. The team’s 291.48 stroke average during the 2016-17 season was the lowest single-season mark in school history.
